Melissa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design from San Diego State University. Since she was a child, she has always loved art and design, so following this educational and career path came naturally to her.
She began her career as an Assistant Interior Designer at Sérendipité in 2012 and believes finding this position was serendipitous (as Valerie would say). What she loves most about working at Sérendipité is being able to be creative every day! Not many people get to say that about their job. Searching for the perfect textiles or helping plan a beautiful tile layout are just a couple of her design interests and strengths. Every day is different and she loves seeing the emotion and wonder on client’s faces when they see their completed home for the first time.
Melissa is a 3rd generation Orange County native and loves the influence the ocean has on interior design in Southern California. She defines her personal design style as coastal, casual with a classic nod, yet she loves stepping outside her comfort zone and designing spaces in many different design genres.
One of her great passions is travel and she loves to be immersed in other cultures. She has enjoyed living in San Diego, Boston and Switzerland. Melissa is a dog lover and in her spare time she enjoys spending time with her German Shorthaired Pointer, Tucker.
KATE VON TICKNER
Kate was born and raised in the small Northern California town of Yreka. Her love for everything Interior Design started at a young age, as many of her weekends and week nights were spent with her parents working on their own home renovation – lots of sheetrock, paint, and trips to home improvement stores. After space planning and purchasing new furniture (on her own dime!) for her newly renovated bedroom (nerd alert), she knew she had knack for this stuff. These projects later inspired her to pursue an education and career in Interior Design, earning her Bachelor in Fine Arts in Interior Design from California State University Long Beach in May of 2016.
Kate started her internship at Sérendipité in 2015 while attending CSULB and was hired on as an Assistant Interior Designer after graduation. What she loves most about her role in the firm are the every day opportunities to wear different hats – one day she’s working on construction documents, the next she’s in the field working with contractors. Of course, her favorite part of a project is the final reveal, when the fabulous design is complete and she can snap some photos for the Sérendipité project portfolio. Every day is different, but every day she learns a new skill and loves what she does.
In her spare time, Kate loves to explore outdoors, whether it be hiking in the mountains or getting tossed by the waves at the beach. Lastly, she’s almost never without her best friend and partner in crime, Miley, a ten pound Jack Russell who is always up for any adventure.
Although he has no formal education or training in project management, Guapo is an excellent and incomparable Sérendipité team member (even though he has been caught napping under the conference table occasionally). He has been with the company since December 2015.
Guapo’s strengths include: always being in a good mood, being enthusiastic to see every employee on the Sérendipité team, chasing seagulls from job sites, being extremely loyal, lovable and cute!
When not in the office or on-site, Guapo enjoys long walks with his mom and dad, playdates at the park with his furry friends, dinner time and coffee (toys) after dinner. You can look forward to a wet kiss in trade for a treat.
Guapo’s best days are when he visits the job sites. He is always popular with our field associates and loves to oversee the quality of work of our tradesmen.
